Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join Mission Operations Finance and partner with operational leaders to connect business activity with financial plans and decisions. This role will own recurring planning, forecasting, and analysis across a complex services organization.
You will build a detailed understanding of how the business operates, assess staffing and resource needs, and help leaders understand spending, utilization, and the financial implications of their decisions.
This role is suited to someone with strong financial modeling skills, deep curiosity about how operations work, and the initiative to own their work from analysis through recommendation. You should be comfortable asking thoughtful questions, bringing an informed perspective to discussions, and partnering with operational leaders in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve and decisions often require working with incomplete information.
Key Responsibilities
Own budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial reviews for assigned operational teams, covering headcount, operating expenses, and capital requirements
Partner with operational leaders to understand business activity, evaluate assumptions, and recommend actions on staffing, spending, and resources
Build financial models that link business demand to workforce, equipment, and material requirements, and evaluate resource options and financial tradeoffs within demand and capacity planning
Maintain headcount and labor forecasts that reflect staffing plans, hiring timing, and workforce changes
Analyze results against plan, explain spending and cost allocation across business activities, and identify risks and opportunities
Track and forecast operational performance, including workforce and asset utilization, overtime, and capacity, and analyze the costs of delivering services
Prepare clear management reporting and ad hoc analyses that explain financial outcomes and support business decisions
Coordinate planning assumptions with finance partners across products and programs, and work with Accounting to reconcile results and resolve cost allocation issues
Improve financial models, reporting, and planning processes in partnership with Finance and relevant system owners
Required Qualifications
5+ years of relevant experience in FP&A, operational finance, or a related analytical role, with demonstrated ownership of operating forecasts and business analysis
Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling ability, including building driver-based forecasts, scenario analyses, and models that others can understand and maintain
Strong understanding of financial statements, expense drivers, cost allocation, and the relationship between operating activity and financial results
Experience owning budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting processes
Demonstrated ability to build credibility with operational leaders, present financial results and recommendations to senior stakeholders, and communicate assumptions and tradeoffs clearly
Curiosity and initiative to learn how the business works, investigate underlying drivers, and turn analysis into practical recommendations
Ability to prioritize competing requests, work through incomplete data, and follow through on commitments in a rapidly changing environment
High standards for accuracy and accountability, with the judgment to validate assumptions, acknowledge uncertainty, and seek input when needed
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in services, field operations, logistics, maintenance, manufacturing, or another business with significant workforce and asset requirements
Experience with workforce planning, demand/capacity analysis, S&OP, or operational performance measures such as utilization and overtime
Experience in a high-growth defense, aerospace, maritime, robotics, or technology business
Experience using ERP, financial planning, or reporting tools, and familiarity with SQL or business intelligence tools
Experience improving recurring processes, documenting workflows, or mentoring colleagues
Experience using AI tools to improve financial analysis, reporting, or workflows, with sound judgment in validating outputs and handling sensitive information
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Occasional standing and walking within the office
Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment
Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports
Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies
Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 20 pounds (e.g., office supplies, packages)
